Catalog | Public Records | Private Collections | Photographs | Film | Artifacts

SAMCC's government collections date from 1849 and provide the researcher with the most complete set of local public records of any archives in the state. For example, SAMCC has:

  • City Council Minutes (1849-1969)
  • City Clerk records (1850-1879)
  • County Board of Supervisors Minutes (1850-1987)
  • County Recorder records (1870-1939)
  • Superior Court Cases (1880-1945 approximately)
  • Probate records(1850-1942 approximately)
  • City Assessment records (1850-1954)
  • County Assessment records (1850-1939)

For the Record
In 1982, the City received a grant from the National Historical Publications Records Commission to compile and publish a listing of all the government records held by the History and Science Division. The resulting publication, entitled For the Record describes North Sacramento, City of Sacramento, and Sacramento County records which were housed by the History and Science Division through 1982. Many more collections have been transferred to the archives since 1982, but For the Record continues to be an invaluable finding aid to SAMCC's collections. For the Record is available on the internet through the Online Archive of California, a project of the University of California.
