Research

SAMCC is a public facility and its collections are available to the community for research by appointment.

What is an Archive?
Unlike a library, an archives contains mostly unique, one of a kind materials which require special handling and storage environments. As a result, the stacks at SAMCC are closed to the public. This does not mean that the material is unavailable. Instead of researchers having direct access to the storage area, SAMCC staff retrieve the materials for the researchers. A research visit to an archives, therefore, is quite different than a visit to a library. After discussing your research interest, the archivists will suggests materials that might answer your questions. Research at SAMCC is a team effort between the researcher and the archivist.

John Breuner Furniture Warerooms Research Projects
The archivists at SAMCC are happy to assist people with their research projects, from family history, to house and property research, to Gold Rush topics, to court cases, to photograph research, to local government activities, to a myriad of other themes and subjects.

Appointments
Please note, research at SAMCC is by appointment only. Because our research spaces sometimes fill quickly, it is best to schedule an appointment about a week in advance. Contact us to make an appointment.
