The Sacramento Museum of History, Science and Technology, also
known as the Discovery
Museum, is a non-profit organization, and operates two separate
sites under a joint agreement between the City of Sacramento and
Sacramento County:
- The Discovery Museum History Center in Old Sacramento features
exhibits that showcase Sacramento's vibrant history, with a focus
on the great Gold Rush of 1849. Located in the replicated 1854
City Hall and Waterworks Building, the History Center houses thousands
of historical artifacts and several hands-on activity stations
for your children or grandchildren. Interactive programs and demonstrations
all come together to help you explore and discover your past,
present and future.
- The Discovery Museum Science & Space Center in north Sacramento
is located on 14 acres of natural parkland with Heritage Oak trees
and a wildlife pond. The Museum is home to the Challenger Space
Program and Sacramento's only public planetarium. Inside, you
will find a nature room with live animals, reptiles and insects
on display. Exhibits include hands-on "exploration stations"
that focus on the natural sciences, geology, space programs and
wild animals.
The Discovery Museums are funded by both the City and County of
Sacramento.
